I wanted simple knuckle rings really badly. I tried to get them off Etsy but this Thai lady tried to charge me US$50 for 8 simple metal rings (pfft this bitch) so I got stacks of cheap-ass rings from H&M and altered a few with my dad's tools to make them smaller. I used a clipper thingamajig (the one with the cubic zircona on it) to cut off a small piece from each ring and then used pliers to push the ends in to meet each other. I was struggling like crazy because my hands hurt when I tried to cut the rings- so much so that I had to wrap my blanket around the handle to make it softer. But then I learned later from my dad that I can just use a hammer to knock the ends of the clippers closed. Piece of cake!

People always tell you to go for things because life is too short. Life is not too short. The chances of getting your bones smashed to smithereens by a bus or having a flower pot fall on your head are not as high as many make it seem. In fact, life is long. It is so fucking long that we will be forced to live with our decisions for the rest of our lives. That is the reason why we need to grab our chances and live life to the fullest. Its not because the time in our lives is ever so fleeting. Its because if we don't, we won't be put out of our misery and regret by oncoming vehicles or plant cultivating containers. We will be forced to live out the remaining 70 years (give or take) of our lives always wondering what would have happened if we had followed our dreams. Those dreams that deviate from the safety net future that we saw for ourselves. Imagine how shit the movie would have been if Pocahontas wound up marrying Kocoum. (No offense to him though. He seemed like a nice guy.) So go for it. Don't live the rest of your life as Mrs Kocoum.

Gone are the awkward days of my desire to appear 'cool'- religiously cleansing my iPod of 'uncool' songs ("Ugh...they're on the radio now. How mainstream! *scoff*") in the attempt to be as obscure and indie as humanly possible. I now throw open my arms to embrace radio-friendly pop songs that make you (secretly) want to get up and shuffle across the room in a manner that can only be described as a wild frenzy of flailing arms and limbs. I'd like the think that this means I'm more mature and ergo, more self-assured but tbh, I think its because I just can't hold it in anymore. Ngl, I still feel self conscious about this; like the whole bus knows when I'm grooving to the playlist of embarrassing songs on my iPod and I get a serious case of the shifty eyes but I concede- Britbrit is the HBIC and I am now, unashamedly, the Gretchen to her Regina.

I've been typing and deleting and typing and editing then deleting this post for an eternity now. I hate not being able to adequately put my thoughts down into words in a way that doesn't make me sound like a prepubescent hick experimenting with blogging (typically on LiveJournal) and providing pictures of herself and her friends with dorky smiles and head-to-toe Forever21 outfits taken by a shitass camera with a long post about every single event that happened that day written in chronological order....... .. . .. ... .

Basically what I've been working on communicating here is that I've been really consumed with the idea of living somewhere else. And by somewhere else, I mean London. But I've also been plagued by the horrific thought of leaving my beloved friends and family behind and yet the thought of not going makes me want to wallow in depression for the next few years. (This is the result of Asian upbringing. Mine at least.) Oh and there's the idea that I wouldn't be able to do anything productive in my time overseas so I would be essentially wasting my parents' money. Hm it seems like everything I want to say is said and yet, I feel like it is so much more complex. I think I overestimate how **deep&troubled** I am and yet I don't find myself deep or troubled at all...

...which is mental...??

Instead of killing the baby, she gently carries the baboon up a tree and protects it from a hyena. Orcas demonstrate how to kill a seal to their young but let the seal go after successfully knocking it into the water. Apparently, they felt the hunting was for demonstration purposes only and felt no need to kill the seal at that point in time! Astounding how animals understand the concept of killing only when necessary when we humans as the "superior" species can't even wrap our heads around that sometimes.

A man found and cured a wounded crocodile and they developed a close bond. The crocodile is dangerous and aggressive towards everyone else except the man!

A young impala gets bitten and dragged underwater by a crocodile and a hippo comes to save it! It died in the end but its the thought that counts...? Just watch it. Its so touching.

Went to TWG today and IT WAS AWESUM MA! IT WAS AWESUM! (KT P's new video!) It really was although it was supremely overpriced! But thats to be expected I suppose. Indulged in creme brulee and sexy tea. Yup that is what it was called. Sexy tea. We asked the waiter what he tea he would recommend, to which he replied:

"Sexy tea cos you al are sexy."

Plus, he said it in a deadpan voice which just added to the hilarity! Anthea's reaction to what he said was caught on camera by Jan. The picture is up there somewhere!

We also caught X-Men: First Class. IT WAS AWESUM MA!! IT WAS AWESUM!!! Really. I teared from the amazingness in the theatre. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Today was a good day...catching up with the RGPS girls, reminiscing about the old days and secretly looking at this cute guy at the next table at TWG ;)

Chinatown is such a tourist trap! Every stall owner is so incredibly grumpy and we got to witness one of them try to speak with an American accent to a bunch of actual Americans. That day we also managed to finally give Fatzies her belated birthday surprise :D (I love you beebz) AND we managed to convince Ili to wear my platforms! (It actually wasn't that hard. I just had to tell her that she would be fucking short if she didn't. Haha what a terrible friend! Playing on her fears.) Oh and my fingers smell like sesame oil right now. Delicious.

Oh yeah. And Fatz got a cat design on her coffee. A cat. What did I get?? A leaf. A fucking leaf!

Today, we finally went to Sentosa to hang out on the beach. Things didn't really work out the way we planned because of the INSANE weather. I wanted to cry but I think the sun evaporated the tears inside me.

Ili and I felt extremely out of place on the beach full of sporty people having real fun in the sun. We were hiding under our hats the whole time. Also, Faith and Fatz wanted to get tan and I was hell bent on remaining the colour that I was (hence the gigantic hat and maxi skirt) BUT, in the end, they looked more or less the same and I was the one who became the brownest in the end. Life works in odd ways...

But I have to add, that if I had to lie there baking in the sun, frowned upon by random people and running around barefoot on sand that could have been ground up pieces of the sun, I'm glad that it was with my favourite people!

I finally got around to seeing Roman Holiday yesterday and I am in love! More than I was when I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's actually. Maybe it was because Roman Holiday had Gregory Peck in it...anyway, I'm going on an old movie rampage and I've got My Fair Lady and Sabrina queueing on my torrent list. Ok, maybe its an Audrey Hepburn rampage (her voice is lovely!) but I tried downloading Casablanca but the links seem to be broken everywhere.

I was so close to flinging myself in front of a car when I was teetering around in those damn shoes. My feet were crying. Really. I could hear them. So Fatz and I traded shoes every now and then to ease my pain! She also bought these glorious pair of hot pink Topshop wedges. AMAZING. Can't wait to see her wear them out!

We checked out the LBD exhibit at the Singapore Museum. There was a bedazzled vintage Balenciaga piece. Marvelous!!!

You'd think I'd learn after years of experience watching movies that were adapted from books that it would never live up to your expectations and would most likely leave you in a state of distress, stressing over various things like the fact that the people who have yet to read the book but watched the film will have a flawed idea of what the author's intentions and messages are. (Although there are a few exceptions to this- some HP shows, Angels and Demons...etc)

Apparently not! Norwegian Wood today was (sad to say) Exhibit K that illustrates this problem so well. Even as someone who read the book, I felt like the scenes were so abrupt (not in the editing but the sequence of actions) and misleading. So many pivotal moments in the novel were left out. Like all the quirky, adorable things that Toru says, Reiko's traumatic experience and like-ability...the list goes on! I just feel like it grossly misrepresented Murakami's lovely story.

Plus, on top of all this angst that sprouted from seeing the movie, I am really, really thirsty but am also too lazy to go get a glass of water. I'll take the blame for this one.

p.s. But I did quite like the way they filmed the show (albeit being a little cliche with the abrupt cuts of the scenes and music and the excessively long shots of scenery) and the actor who played Toru. He got cuter with each passing minute!!

What do people do on the Internet??? It astounds me how I can spend hours on my laptop and at the same time, drone on and on in my head about how there's absolutely nothing to do on the Internet. This (in my opinion) is one of life's greatest mysteries.

Today on the bus, Eliza and I were sitting in between 3 guys in the back row. The guy on my right suddenly started talking on the phone...to the guy at the other end. I've always imagined that death is just a never ending sleep. It's not sad because you feel the way you feel when you're in a really deep sleep (I'm not being morbid or anything but this doesn't sound that bad!). The kind of sleep where you don't hear anything, feel anything, dream of anything. I went to look up the meaning of 'Spanish Sahara' and 'the horror' in the song refers to just that. Its just an opinion but it makes the most sense to me. The concept that there is nothing beyond death and in a way, it is the 'death of God' because it refutes what religion proposes- an afterlife in some way or another. The 'horror' is nothingness. I suppose what the song essentially means is that we should forget about the horror- forget about nothingness because ultimately, everything is going to fade to insignificance. Calm the fury in your head and forget the horror here because its all future rust and future dust.

...I feel like a serious problem with being a student is the feeling of that vicious continuous cycle where everyday is sort of like the last...the only difference is what time I get to come home and take my contacts off. I just wait for the weekend to approach and that is the highlight of the week. Which says something because every weekend is more or less spent the same way. And then Monday comes around again and I feel like a serious problem with being a student...

I'm told that I'm going to miss being in school when I'm finally out of there but I'm just dying to break free from the feeling that I'm just going through the motions of life, waiting for something to happen. Nothing is going to happen until I get control of my time. That isn't going to happen either until I get this education business out of the way. I have all these plans for myself when my post A's holiday comes along but there's a lingering fear that I won't ever get around to doing these things. That I won't ever get around to volunteering at an orphanage, write and illustrate a short book for myself, finish my reading list or go cycling on the beach...I'm afraid that I'll decide to put these things off and bum around at home or do things that I'm so used to doing and the feeling of 'going through the motions' is never going to end even though I don't realize it until its over. They say that life is short but life is only short when you're at the end of it (not the end of life...more like the end of an opportunity), wishing you did things that you didn't when you could.

Oh yeah and there's also this ultimate fear that no matter what I do, the feeling will never pass. What if when my dreams and solutions to this feeling are actually manifesting and I start to feel that I'm going through the motions of those dreams?? Fuck thats depressing. I think I should just focus on my studies first.

And to my bb Ili- I know you're having a hard time with school and life :( I want nothing more than to rub a magic lamp and wish for you to feel happier but alas, the folks at Disney are lying sluts. Just know that the boobs and I (I'm sure they'll agree) will always be here for you whenever you need anything. It doesn't feel like it now but things will get better eventually. It always does! And when that happens, we shall celebrate with books and bicycles and the wind in our faces...followed by a night at your favourite place >:) I got your back, Jack. Bitches be crazy!

Russell celebrated his first birthday (although his real birthday isn't for another week...) on Saturday at Gymboree! It was fancier than any birthday I have ever had.

There were macarons, cupcakes, sushi, milo in fancy cans and a $200 dollar cake. All of which Russell couldn't even eat because he's only a year old.

I can't wait to watch him grow up! When he starts walking, talking and getting the ladies ;)

It only just occurred to me that one of the most wonderful things that a person can be is to be insightful without trying to be. (Sometimes, people try to be insightful but more often than not, they end up coming off as a flaming senseless douchebag)

I just started reading 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' and its kind of amazing. I've seen 'And in that moment, I swear we were infinite' all over Tumblr but to actually read the entire context...

I got goosebumps that lasted a few pages after that one.

When I read other books, I can't wait to get to the end and find out what happens, marvel at it then move on to another one. But I don't ever want this one to end :( Like when I had the creme caramel latte at Marmalade Pantry. I wonder if there is an alternate universe with bottomless mugs and never ending books...and permanently chilly weather so everyday is a sweater-and-hot-Starbucks day.

And then, out of my Alexander Wang backpack (which is about as real as this fantasy), I will take out a container of fresh berries and cream (that miraculously hasn't gone runny from the heat) and suddenly, I will be joined by my magical friends who arrive on vintage bicycles in various pastel colours. Also, its windy but not windy enough to give everyone an awkward centre part. Plus, 'Lisztomania' is playing unexplainably in the background.

Yesterday we took her to this great place in Clarke Quay where you get free pizza/pasta with every drink you buy on Ladies Night! But this guy working there was such a DICK!!! We asked him for a table inside and he told us there weren't any available. But we told him that another waiter told us that we could move inside if we wanted to and he said: "then get him to find you a table." And he walked away!!!

If you happen to go there, he's the guy with boobs. Infuriating bastard. SCOWL AT HIM!

Anyway, there was this magician who made rounds around the tables. He came to ours and he did a bunch of amazing tricks! Like in one of the pictures on top, my phone is wrapped in rubber. He put it into a balloon! We were really amazed. The whole place knew we were amazed because Addy kept screaming (Y)

She also kept saying "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!!!" Hahaha oh Addy...

It was a fun night. Too bad we had school the next day :(

My dad called me up earlier today to make sure that I was home by 7 because the folks over at M1 were going to drop off a SIM card between 7-10pm to replace the one that my dad lost when he lost his phone a few days ago. So I agreed and came home at 7:10 but they already tried dropping it off at 7 on the dot.

I told my dad about it when he came home and he went ballistic!! He went on about how irresponsible I am and how I cannot be trusted with anything...how I won't be reliable at my future job. You know the works. But how am I the irresponsible one when he was the one who lost his phone in the first place??

(I will admit to coming home late but honestly, who would have thought that the M1 people would be so darn punctual??? Why give a time window if you're going to be on the damn dot! Apparently, my dad didn't think of this either because he seemed perfectly fine when he called me at 6:30 and found out that I was just leaving Vivo.)

So I pointed this out. To say that he was fucking displeased would be a gross understatement. If I still labelled my posts, I would label this #Crazyparent.

OH! And in other news, there is a kitten who has found itself a home under my mother's car. We were driving out to get some food and I heard it meowing. Apparently there's some box thingamajig under the car that it can lie in! I just hope its just stubborn and not stuck because it refused to come out even when we brought it food. We'll see how it goes tomorrow!

Goodbye 2010 and New Years party glasses that were made possible because of the two 0's. Although 2011 brings about less than ideal party paraphernalia (seriously wtf is that), I feel like I'm ready for this apparently daunting year.I owe this feeling to the support I know I'll have from my family and friends. And my new stationery:

And in other news, I had the most productive day of my life! I helped my mom paint the living room (one wall is now a lovely shade of olive), I bought stationery to arm myself for this oncoming year of madness, and I cleaned out my entire room and closet (there are two boxes and one enormous bag to be donated to the Salvation Army)!

My neck is now stiff from painting the high parts of the wall and a bit of the ceiling (my mother called me weak when I pointed this out) but it is worth it because it feels like a fresh start for the fresh year.

New Year's Resolution(s):

Keep my room in the clean state it is in.
Keep my cupboard in the clean state it is in.
Read books from my book list instead of going onto Facebook/read fashion blogs when I'm bored.
Prioritize my studies.
Be as badass in real life as I am in my mind.

Finally back from my looong Vegas/SF trip! Pity we only spent a couple of days in San Francisco because it was such a nice city! Although my cousin wasn't a big fan of it because he claims there are too many crazy people. I say they add character! There were many hobos lurking around holding up charming signs that said:

Not gonna lie. I want beer.
Money for food and weed
Funds needed for alcohol research
Money for beer

Yup. At least they're honest! Nothing has changed much in Vegas...there are still annoying rows of men handing out cards of naked women who can be "SENT STRAIGHT TO YOU!!!!" (whoot!!) and the people are as tourist-friendly as ever. There were also armies of skanks that paraded around in stilettos and tiny ass bandage dresses (have they not heard of maxis???) in the freezing cold and douchey looking frat boys in polo shirts (with the ocassional popped collar) and baggy jeans. Classy bunch!

And if you go to Vegas, I highly recommend (in fact, I insist!) that you watch Cirque Du Soleil's 'Ka' or 'O'. I think this year was the 3rd or 4th time I've seen both shows and I'm still as awestruck and amazed as I was when I watched them for the first time. They are truly ~*~*magical*~*~

Plus, as amazing as it was to escape reality and have fresh berries every morning for breakfast, I am so pleased to be back! Although it feels really weird...but seeing my dad at the airport, sleeping in my own bed and hanging out with Faitharoos and Fatzies really makes reality quite the joyride! Until school starts of course.

And in other news, Eels finally returns home from Canada in slightly less than 24 hours!!! Hurrah!!! Aboot time!!!!!

p.s. I am one jetlagged lady (yes I'm a lady now. Finally turned 18! Woot~) in desperate need of sleeping pills.

I just came across these pictures online and they're all from a book called 'A Matter of Taste' by Fulvio Bonavia. I think I'm a little slow on the uptake because the book came out in 2008. But in case anyone hasn't seen it either...

He created the items with edible and natural materials and photographed them to make this amazing book! I am still in awe. The hollowed out egg plants for the flats...genius!!

I love being here with everyone I love but I also really want to be on that plane to Vegas now so I can frolic along the 10 degree streets in knit, a turban or a leather jacket without developing a sweat 'stache.

And I would also like to be able to walk out the door, cross a bridge and arrive at the 3 storey Urban Outfitters the marvelous people at Planet Hollywood built for their Miracle Mile.

Plus, I don't mind getting a 'thank you' when I hold a door or a lift open for strangers. Maybe they're drinking special water that is infused with some ingredient that makes people courteous. If so, they're supplying it to almost every country other than Singapore! (OH. Vitamin Water in Singapore! Woot!)

But mostly the knit/turban/leather jacket thing.

In Universal Studios there was an army of 'dead' soldiers marching around and chanting some stuff and holding chainsaws. Then they suddenly stopped and just stood there for a while. THEN they went insane and started running after people with their chainsaws. IT WAS AWESOME.

Finally caught Paranormal Activity 2 today!! I brought my High School Musical blanket to comfort myself and to shield my face if necessary. It was necessary.

(In my defence, my aunt bought me the blanket and its really, really soft!)

On my way to town, I looked like some homeless person- I had a big plastic bag stuffed with the blanket and a skirt I wanted to exchange. And had a zillion things slung on my shoulder. I was also wearing a cardigan and a turban-y headband which just contributed to the confused state I looked like I was in.

So I just came home from VAM-PIE-UH WEEK-AND!!!

My throat hurts so bad from screaming "OTTOMAN!!!!!!!!". They didn't play it though. I learned from Kevin afterwards that its because they sold the song to NANIP so they can't play them at their shows. Wtf is right.

From finally seeing Faitharoos (<3), grooving to M79 with Su, to watching the crazy dancing guy in front of us with awe, it was a pretty awesome night :)

The Dome Cafe at the Singapore Art Museum is really nice! It makes you feel like you're not in Singapore...which is nice. Obviously. Haha. If the weather is right, I think it could feel like you're sitting at a cafe in Rome or Paris.

Not that I've been to Rome or Paris! I just imagine it would be like that. Only a zillion times more amazing, of course.

Btw, Ili and I are sitting in one of those coin-operated children's rides in that first picture. The security guard was really displeased. He was even more displeased when I waved at him!

And I've finally gotten around to reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I've had it for ages but never read it...I'm assuming its been cos of the exams and stuff. I finally read it today and its fucking good! The way he writes is psychotic and amazing all at the same time.

It was quite an experience getting on the train looking like...that. We received more disapproving looks than usual. More than the time I wore those studded sandals. Which the elderly seem to frown upon for some reason.

I am currently stuffing my face with a peanut-butter-and-kaya sandwich which I know sounds absolutely disgusting. But it is delicious, I assure you! (Try it. You won't regret it! True story!)

Finally met up with all three of the girls at the same time on Wednesday to play a friendly game of Taboo :D [Where my team (me + Faith + Kevin) totally owned btw.]

And met Ili and Faith on Saturday (Fatz couldn't make it :( Can't wait for your A's to be over) and we went to Haji Lane for the first time since the last time. Which was eons ago! It brought back many (awkward) memories. Hur hur.

We had dinner at this briyani place which was quite amazing. Aside from the fact that the toilet was the most filthy, disgusting place I have ever been in. I almost cried. There was pee in the toilet, no toilet paper, the tap didn't work and it smelled of pee + the spices they used to make the food. The spices were so strong my eyes were tearing while I was struggling with everyday life to keep my bag on my shoulder while trying to take care of some...womanly issues.

Never again.

And I hear my dad laughing manically next door. What a queerleader...

Su and I were sitting in shopping carts while waiting for Addy and Pris to meet us after tuition and this evil security guard chased us out. It was a slope outside the door so we were sliding down the slope and the fucked up security guard didn't do anything to stop it!! I was freaking out and three of my wheels went off the curb. Then the douchebag decided to come to our rescue. What a tool!

I'm sitting in my dad's room trying to do some work. Operative word being trying of course. The whole concept of school makes me die a little every day on the inside. All I want to do is elope to New York with nothing but a journal and a child-like sense of wonder. (Heh Youth in Revolt was quite awesome btw. Go watch it.) Okay so now instead of finding alternative things to do instead of studying [e.g. p▲inting ▲ hipster tri▲ngle onto my fingern▲il (I'm no hipster!)], I will now try to get back down to work. Now I'm just annoyed cos the ▲ is off-center.

I think its time to invest in an assorted stick-on mustache set.

Yesterday, I followed Faith on her trip to Johor with her classmates (+ Kevin) and we went to Nana's Animal Shelter! There were almost a thousand dogs, plenty of cats, guinea pigs, 5 horses, a monkey and an owl. It was amazing.

The shelter supports so many animals and its not cheap even to support just one. I think Faith's school is going to organize a fundraiser of some sort to help the shelter out with these animals so if that happens please help!

Or help in other ways by going there to give the animals some much needed TLC. (Be warned-they can get pretty excited) I'm definitely going back there someday :)

Met up with the gal pals all together today ♥

Faith gave us our lovely presents from Germany (thanks bb!) and tomorrow Ili is flying off to Germany too :'( I am going to miss that nimrod!

Faitharoos gave me a lovely feathered handband that actually fits my unfortunately enormous head! Can't wait to wear it out.

So today I saw the most hideous shoes to ever exist. They are worse than crocs so thats telling of how horrible it is!
Its just a rubber thing with some shit that goes between your first two toes so you don't need anymore straps. Its truly horrific and I wanted to push the guy wearing it down the stairs. I would have gone to jail satisfied.

(As Told By Ginger is showing on Nick and Ginger is an adult!! Bloody mindfuck!)

Also, Faitharoos is going off to Germany for 10 days today :'(
